1968 research by R. Meek
My grandfather bought this car new in the spring of 1960 when it was the last
remaining Edsel at Blaser Edsel in Moline, Illinois. He traded a 1950 Nash for
it. My grandfather drove the car until early 1966 when he gave it to me - at
that time it had about 70,000 miles on it. I then drove it until the fall of
1970 at which time I traded it in on a 1971 Ford Pinto. At the time I traded
my Edsel it had been restored and repainted with original DuPont paint, although
no engine overhaul had been done. At trade-in it had about 190,000 miles on it,
and did not use more than a half quart of oil between changes (every 3,000
miles). As delivered this car had no power accessories but did have what's listed
above. It came without the embossed "E" in the center of the back seat as, according
to the Edsel dealer, all of those seats were gone by the time this car was built. The
dealer to which I traded the Edsel subsequently sold it to a man in West Liberty, Iowa who
had a collection of Edsels, however I've long ago misplaced his name. I'd love to know
if it still exists and, if so, what condition it is in.
