410cid E-475 V8, Teletouch automatic transmission
Edsel number
113830 manufactured in Oakville, Ontario, Canada
Owner:
Glenn Lennox
I first saw this car in the mid-70’s when a neighbouring car collector acquired it. He
purchased it in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and drove it to his farm in western Manitoba, a
distance of about 300 miles, so it was obviously in driving condition at that
time. However, it was then parked in a shed and left untouched for 20 years. He
planned to work on his large collection when he retired, but unfortunately he died in a car
accident in 1995 at age 65, and the cars were sold at his estate sale, where I picked up the
Edsel. By that time, it had 2 stuck valves and mice had removed the stuffing from the
seats and stored it (plus large quantities of grain) in the headliner (all through one 1
inch hole)!
The good news; I got it cheap. The bad news; the entire interior (which was in good
shape except for the carpet) had to be disassembled and washed to get rid of the smell (still
have the headliner to clean, and haven’t got the seat covers back on yet). The E475
engine runs well, after freeing the valves, and it appears to be roadworthy once the master
cylinder is rebuilt and a new exhaust system installed.
