"E-475" 410cid 345bhp V8, Teletouch automatic transmission, 2.91:1 axle ratio
Edsel number
701192 manufactured in Los Angeles, CA on October 18, 1957
Owner:
Chris Carmichael
I have several buck tags on my car: One on the radiator coolant line on the front clip and one mounted
on the firewall by the fan blower. My secondary data tag says XE-E 18-K 4 A, and the body buck tag
actually near the fan blower shows the tri-tone paint arrangement, which I believe is very rare for an
LA build car. That tag says X8JX701192, then 10-27, then BAM 57, then XEA.
My car has many nice options listed above, plus the front plate cover reads Stoddard-Wendle of Spokane, and it
also has a tissue dispenser box with a nice Edsel emblem on it. Jere Gauss was kind enough to send me the
parking brake light switch, so it has that as well. The open door light indicator works, too. The
clock, tach, fuel gauge, Dial-Temp and Teletouch all work perfectly.
This car only saw service from November of 1957 to 1960, when the original owner, Bill, lost an engine
oil plug on the way to San Francisco. The car was towed back to Central Washington where it sat
entirely untouched in Whittum's garage until I bought it. I have owned it since. It has very
low miles on it and has had the 410, tranny, brakes, and tires all rebuilt. The dash pad has been
replaced by Just Dashes, the front end has had been completely rebuilt, (I didn't want to drive any car
with 50 year old front end components) and the car was expertly repainted in its original colors, and the seat
upholstery replaced by fabric purchased from SMS Auto fabrics. While this car is not going to be a
National Show winner, it has been shown and has received many positive comments. I have every registration
slip for the vehicle dating back to its inaugural year of service. I spasringly drive it with great
pleasure when I am home for the summer months in Washington, and love everything Edsel.
