1960 Edsel $300 Allowance Certificate
Flash forward 35 years. Ron Clark Ford in Amarillo, Texas had a customer that brought in a rebate certificate and wanted to redeem it. As there was no expiration date, the customer successfully used this as a rebate towards a new 1995 Crown Victoria that he purchased. As the certificate is only valid when used by the original Edsel owner, its believed that this is the last known instance where a certificate was redeemed.
Shown here is the original hand-type envelope, the hand typed letter to the customer
and the $300.00 Allowance Certificate number E198 that is also hand typed in the
blanks. Because so much time had past (and after calls to both the regional office in
Dallas and a call to Ford headquarters in Dearborn), the customer was given $600, and the
dealership mounted and framed these historic papers for display.
(Thanks to Randy Clark for the images!)
